RISA HONTIVEROS : SUGAR IMPORTATION FIASCO "SEBASTIAN Guilty or FALL GUY?

Sa kakatapos na pagdinig sa kontroversiyal na pag angkat ng asukal

Dismayado si Senadora Risa Hontiveros ng oposisyon sa naging resulta ng kanilang imbestigasyon ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee na nagrerekomenda sa paghahain ng kasong administratibo at kriminal laban kay Agriculture undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian at sa  tatlong kasamahan ng dating opisyal ng Sugar Regulatory Administration na sangkot sa Sugar Order No. 4 para sa importasyon ng karagdagang 300,000 metriko toneladang asukal.

 

Ayon sa senadora, sumasang-ayon siya sa findings ng komite na maaaring may kakulangan sa suplay ng asukal, ngunit maaring maituturing umanong ‘fall guys’ ang mga opisyal na nasasangkot sa nasabing anomalya

“There was and there is a shortage. Facts don’t lie. The numbers don’t lie. I hope this puts to rest all speculation that the shortage is artificial, dahil may bode-bodegang asukal naman na nakatago sa iba’t ibang dako ng bansa na natuklasan sa mga ginawang pag raid. These optics need to be seen against the data — how much sugar do we as a country actually consume, how much are we producing locally,” reaksiyon ni Hontiveros

Kinukuwestiyon ng senador ang pagkakadawit ni Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez at sa kanyang testimoniya sa pagdinig ng Senado sa importasyon ng asukal kaya, Pina-subpoena pa ni Hontiveros ang recording ng zoom meeting noong Agosto 4 na dinaluhan ni President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., at ng dating SRA chief Hermenegildo Serafica, ng Sugar Board member, Aurelio Valderrama Jr., at ni Vic Rodriguez.

 “Pero, with due respect to the Chair, tila may ginawang fall guys. Of course the President can retract orders and override policy, but I believe Usec. Sebastian when he says he was of the good faith belief that the importation not only was necessary, (and that) it had the support of the Chief Executive,” in addition to what she said.

Ayon sa Senador, hindi umano naging transparent si Rodriguez ng magbigay ito ng kanyang testimonya sa Senado tungkol sa naganap na paguusap noong Agosto pagitan ng pangulo at ng mga dating opisyal ng SRA.

“What are they hiding? What is the real score? Why did the ES need to be subpoenaed and why did he not disclose the August 4 meeting with the President in the first instance?” dagdag ni Hontiveros.

“Sa kasalukuyan, ang mga manggagawa ng Coke and bottlers industry ay nangangamba kung may trabaho pa bukas dahil sa kontrobersiyal at mataas na sa presyo ng asukal sa merkado, ang mga mamimili ay nanlulumo  sa presyo ng asukal,” dagdag pa ng senadora
